LETTER FROM CEO TO ARBOL INTERNATIONAL COMMUNTY

Dear Friends:

On behalf of Arbol International’s staff and myself let me extend an affectionate greeting on this first working day of 2018. We have enjoyed working to our goals to love and help the people of the Amazon in the town of Pucallpa, Peru.

Despite the long list of challenges and problems we face trying to fulfill our vision, we have seen important results since 2014 that allow us to become a strong organization focused on bringing hope and self-sustainability to local Amazonians thru training and farming.

During 2017 Arbol International has effectively empowered our alliance with kids Alive, a 100 year-old Christian organization caring for children living in difficult conditions around the world. We have empowered our alliance in these aspects:

  1. We signed a collaboration Agreement that allows Arbol International to use the land available in Kids Alive’s large campus for our agricultural projects.
  2. We provided a local engineer to teach science and to support the community outreach after school homework club and other activities.
  3. We developed and implemented the first Agricultural Workshop for young people of San José in Pucallpa through Mission TEC, a 300 youngster operation, where we identified and developed 15 young leaders. The workshop included theoretical classes, paid field work at a price equivalent to the legal minimum and inclusion in the harvest and marketing. For this we counted on the professional advice of an agricultural engineer. In this activity Arbol International has invested approximately 2000 dollars.

For 2018 we have learned important information that allowed us to adjust our strategies. We identified two challenges that we had not been aware of : 1. After generations of living as hunter-gatherers in the jungle, a large segment of the population is simply unmotivated to work, and 2, An impossibility to afford land for the landless of the community due to presence of land traffickers and the high price of the deforested land.

Therefore we are launching a new program THE ENTREPRENEURS’ CLUB:

  1. To invest resources to create mini farms of vegetables, fruit trees and poultry facilities starting in the TEC mission and the orphanage.
  2. To sell our production in the local market and to Kids Alive to feed their 300 day children and 8 live-on-campus-orphans.
  3. To help finance the local participants to replicate the same business format in their own home plots.

In 2018, we will be providing 3 leadership potential families access to training, competitive paid work in the gardens and poultry operation and financial help for their own farming in their own home plot.

This is a very exciting time for Arbol International as we feel that our programs and efforts are touching real people and improving their lives one family at a time.  Thank you for partnering with us.

God Bless’

                Jorge Zuniga, Founder.
